Fear Factor Game

A Fear Factor Game really kicks your Halloween Party up several notches due to the gruesome stunts that your friends will be performing! This set of tasks is inspired by the "All-Gross" episode's dares which were bobbing for objects in a vat of blood, retrieving skunk carcasses from a pitch-black chamber and munching on five-inch hornworms.

In this party-friendly version, your friends will bob for animal hearts in fake blood, find Mr. Ween's body parts in a pitch black room, and go for the win by eating as many nigthcrawler worms as they can stomach!

Things You’ll Need

  • a Fear Factor Game Host
  • Prizes for the winning team
  • Stopwatch
  • Round 1 - Bobbing for Animal Hearts in Blood
  • Round 2 - Retrieve Mr. Ween's Body Parts
    • An overcooked whole head of cauliflower (the brain)
    • Two frozen peeled grapes or olives (the eyes)
    • A large lump of uncooked liver (the heart)
    • A handful of corn silk or wet fur or yarn (his hair)
    • 1 damp plastic glove filled with gelatin or ice (his hand)
    • 2 dried apricots (his ears)
    • A pickle, hot dog or a soft chicken bone (his nose)
    • Wet spaghetti (stomach remains)
    • Cow tongue (his tongue)
    • Pitch Black Room
  • Round 3 - Eating Worms
    • 50-75 live nightcrawlers per player
    • 3 disposable containers per player
    • 1 large glass of water per player

Teams

In your invitation for the party, tell people you’ll be playing a Fear Factor game and they will need to be prepared with disposable clothes and a team of 2 people. You should also ask for reservations for teams so that you know how many worms to buy.

There are three rounds. In rounds one and two, 2/3 of the original number of teams will be eliminated. For example, if you had 9 teams, 3 would be eliminated in round one and another 3 teams in round two. That would leave 3 teams to participate in the final round.

Fear Factor Game Round 1
Bobbing for Pig Hearts in Fake Blood

Set Up
Start by mixing up lots of fake blood. Pour it into a large tub. Drop in the pig hearts and the plastic rings.

Tip: You can find pig hearts at your local butcher store. Call them about two weeks before you party because they may need a little time to order them.

Give the team members a set of earplugs, goggles, and nose plugs to wear during this round. You might also want some cheap ponchos.

Play It
One team plays at a time with both players on a team participating.

The goal is for each team is to retrieve the two pig hearts and as many rings as they can in 60 seconds.

The host yells "GO" and starts the stopwatch.

The team must get the two pig hearts and as many rings as they can  from the tub using only their heads. If they use any other body part, the team is eliminated.

The host will call out when there is 30 seconds, 15 seconds, and 5 seconds remaining.

At 60 seconds, the host yells "STOP" and the team members stop bobbing.

If they failed to get both pig hearts, the team is eliminated.

If they got both hearts then count how many rings they got.

The teams with the fewest rings are eliminated.

Fear Factor Game Round 2
Retrieve Mr. Ween’s Body Parts from a Pitch Black Room

You’ve heard the story of Mr. Hal O. Ween, right? For round 2 of the Fear Factor Game, teams will retrieve his body parts from a pitch black room!

Set Up
Create a large, pitch black room in your house. To block any light, get large styrofoam or cardboard pieces and cover the windows. Push back all furniture to the edges of the room or remove it entirely. Also, if you have nice carpet or nice things in the room that you don’t want to get icky, put plastic or something over it. Remember, the people coming into this room are the same people that just bobbed in blood.

Around the room, place the following "body parts" on plates or plastic.

  1. An overcooked whole head of cauliflower (the brain)
  2. Two frozen peeled grapes or olives (the eyes)
  3. A large lump of uncooked liver (the heart)
  4. A handful of corn silk or wet yarn (his hair)
  5. 1 damp plastic glove filled with gelatin (his hand)
  6. 2 dried apricots (his ears)
  7. A pickle, hot dog or a soft chicken bone (his nose)
  8. Wet spaghetti (stomach remains)
  9. Cow tongue (his tongue)

Outside of the room, have a table with plates set up with these phrases next to them. The players have to place each “body part” on the plate with the corresponding phrase.

  1. Here is his brain, which now feels no pain.
  2. Here are his eyes, still frozen with surprise.
  3. Here is his heart. Be careful lest it start!
  4. Now we have his hair, which once was so fair!
  5. One hand all alone, just rotting flesh and bone.
  6. Now his ears. He nevermore will hear!
  7. This is his nose. T'will never smell a rose.
  8. These worms are all that's left to feel. For it was a lovely meal!
  9. Here lies his tongue with songs unsung.

Play It
One team plays at a time with both players on a team participating. There are no rules for how a team chooses to divide or do the work.

The goal is for each team to find all 9 items and place them on the appropriate plates in the shortest time.

The other teams should be out of site so that they don’t learn what "body parts" go on which plate.

The host reads this line: "Once in this town there lived a man named Hal O. Ween. T'was years ago this very night that he was murdered out of spite. Your task is to find his nine remains and place them on their new plate graves". The host says "GO" and starts the stopwatch.

The players then go into the room to find the "body parts" and bring them back to the table and put them on the plates.

If a player places a "body part" on an incorrect plate, the host should immediately tell them they have placed something incorrectly so they can correct their mistake.

The door to the room should be shut while the players are searching. It can only be opened to bring out items.

When all the "body parts" are placed on the correct plates, the host stops the stopwatch and records the team's time.

At the end of the round, eliminate the slowest teams.

Fear Factor Game Round 3
Eating Worms

Inspire your teams to be like Mark Hogg of Kentucky, USA for this Fear Factor Game. He holds the Guinness World Record for eating 94 nightcrawlers in 30 seconds on October 2000 on "The Regis Philbin Show". He also holds the Ripley's World Record for most nightcrawlers eaten in 1 hour - an astonishing 15 lbs on February 2003 on "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" That’s a whole lotta worms!

Set Up
Separate your worms into containers in groups of 25. Put three containers and a glass of water in front of each contestant.

Play It
All the remaining players play at the same time in the final round.

The goal is to eat as many worms as possible in 30 seconds.

The host yells "GO" and starts the stopwatch. The players start eating. They are not allowed to drink water until after the 30 seconds is up.

The host will call out when there is 15 seconds and 5 seconds remaining.

After 30 seconds the host yells "STOP". All team members must open their mouth immediately, remove any uneaten worms, and place them back in a container.

Count the worms in the containers. Since you know 25 worms were in each container, you can figure out how many worms each player ate. Add the two team member’s number of worms eaten together for the total for the team.

The team that ate the most worms wins your Halloween Fear Factor Game!
