American Gothic Painting Couple Costume

We decided we wanted to be something unique this year for Halloween. My boyfriend is currently enrolled in an art course this semester and there our idea was born.

To make the box:
We used a 46" LCD TV box and covered it with woodgrain contact paper. We drew the painting on posterboard and then painted it and attached it to the inside of the box using a spray adhesive glue.

For costumes:
Most of the clothing we already had. I couldn't find a collar-less men's shirt so we jsut tucked the collar in. I found a cameo pin on ebay. The woman's apron was made, with my Mom's help (thanks again!), from a pattern she bought at a fabric store. Finally, rather than lug around a real pitchfork, I bought a plastic devil's fork at the Halloween store and painted it.

We had such a great time with this costume!
